Make New Multi Level Drop Down Menu Tree

This is the SECOND Step in building the Multi-Level Drop Down Menu Tree. Click here for Step One.

While the multi level menu is cool, it is also complicated and intensive to set up. It also requires browsers to be CSS and JavaScript enabled. To read more about these issues, please click here. If you are not experienced we strongly recomend using the standard menu.

To build this drop down menu you need a complete understanding of urls and linking structure. If you rename pages or change any urls on your website, for example, you must also manually edit them in your menu tree or the links will terminate at a 404 page not found error.

To build your Menu Tree, you must fill in the form. You can have up to 50 buttons and 50 sublevel buttons on each main level button.

  • Next to Menu Button 1, 2, etc., type the name of the button that will appear in your menu. Buttons can include, Home, About Us, Contact, Policies, Shop Here, eStore, etc. The text will appear exactly as you type it so if you want it all lower case, then type it all lower case. Generally, you should use upper case and lower case letters properly (e.g., Home vs. home).

  • Right below the Menu Button 1, 2, etc, you will see URL. Either type or paste in the URL that corresponds to the Menu Button right above the URL.

For example: your Menu Button 1 may be: Home; the corresponding url may be: https://mywebsite.com/Home.html. You can find the urls for the pages in your website by either going to your website and going through every page or by clicking on the Edit Pages icon at the top. If you are working in this section, it is generally easiest if you open two windows, one window to the Make New Multi Level Menu Tree page and one to Edit Pages icon page.

You get to the above screen by clicking on the Edit Pages icon at the top of your Management Console.

If you want a submenu for your Menu Button, click on the Add Submenu link and one TITLE and corresponding URL box will appear. If you want another submenu, click on the Add Submenu link again. In the first image above, you can see such a submenu for the Menu Button 2 which is the Policies button.

If you need more than three Menu Buttons, click on the Add Menu Buttons button to add additional menu buttons.

When you finish, click on the Make Menu button.

To see your work, click on the Website Home icon at the top. You may need to refresh your page.

The above produces the following:

You can see the sub menu produced for Policies. The menu only comes out when the person puts their mouse over the Policies button.

You can always make changes by clicking on the Edit Current Menu Tree link. You can also change the colors by clicking on the Multi Level Menu Colors & Settings link.
