If you plan on making millions online by opening your own website, read this, and try not to cry.

It is true that you can generate millions of dollars online, I know, because I have done it. I will attempt to layout the basics for prospective owners so you have some idea of what you are getting into.

Some years ago, you could open a site good or bad and likely be selling products within a few days without ever doing more than building your website. However, today is a new world and the internet competition is fierce.

When you build a website you are competing with every other website online. That mease every business online. And that my friend means your are bidding for commecials during the superbowl.

To make money in todays market you either need a 300 IQ or a million dollar bank account.

So the question of the day is, how do you make money without investing your life savings and 100 hours a week of your time?

Its not as grim as it seems. There are great new ideas coming online daily and the search engines are always looking for new content. But you will need two definite things. First, you must be patient. It takes about 1 year for an average website to get enough pages listed in google to even begin seeing an occasional visitor. Second, you need to be persistant, adding several new pages to your website each and every day for at least one year.

That right, there is no get rich quick potential online. You missed that by about 7 years. But, there are new internet milionairs born each and every day.

The trick to making money today is hard work. Buy starting with a single page today and adding 2 or 3 new pages daily you will look very attractive to the search engines. They see a growing website with new emerging content and will gladly list your pages. But they do this very slowly to prevent spammers from posting thousands of pages in one day and eating the search results. You can not expect to see quick results and when you do, the results will be a small trickle of traffic.

Don't worry. Its not massive appeal that you need. You only need one visitor to make a sale. If you are selling realestate in a local market and have spent a year writing articles about realestate in your area, the people coming to your website will be looking for that specific information. If only 20 people a day show up on your website and realize you are the local authority on land in your area, they will contact you to buy.

The upside is that you will continue to get that trickle of traffic forever!

Now, if you spent one hour each day adding content to your website. After a year you have 500 to 1000 pages that are indexed in the search engines. You might have invested 300 hours total and likely not more than $100 for the anual hosting fees. If one person calls you each day and becomes a client interested in buying a new home, you have a streaming source of income that in better than any other form of advertising you can buy.

If you can spend 1 hour a day and get a serious buyer or seller consistantly then you probably would. Yet most people will not, if the rewards are one year away.

Most people spend less than 5 hours total on their website and then wait. And wait. And wait. Then get angry when nothing happens.

Building a page with your name and address and what you do is mostly a waste of time. Without a comprehensive website you will have nothing. And just like a book, who will buy a book with one page?

If we compare the search engines with book stores, which bookstore will use valuable shelf space to stock a book with one page? NONE! As well, the search engines will not list your site or ever refer anyone to it.

Most businesses fail due to lack of effort. The same is true online. The rewards go to the hard workers and the dreamers feed the money machine and line scammers pockets paying for search engine optimization and web design.

Of course the philosiphy can be expanded exponetialy. Our company own hundreds of websites each earning a small income. Combined, they earn a truck load of cash. It's all dependant on how much effort you put in. Of course a website with 1 million pages will make more than a single page site.

In closing, if you think that you can open a website and see a mailbox full of checks tomorrow. Don't waste your time. But if you want a strong business tool to aid your income and support your existing business, get started today. Every day that passes is putting you one more day behing your ultimate goal of wealth.
