Answer to:
What do I do about international (including
Canada) shipping? |
Many people want to ship to other countries
and they want the shopping cart to figure out shipping costs for
them. There are several ways for you to handle international
shipping. You can use Flat Rates (Option 1 below) or you can use
the International Rate Table (Option 2 below). If you are just
interested in shipping to Canada, you can also use the Canadian
Rate Table (Option 3 below).
You can use all of these options in
addition to your regular options such as UPS, USPS, your own
rate table, etc.
Option 1: Flat Rates
You can create up to 5 flat rate values.
You will specify the name and cost of the option. The system will
not do any calculations at check out for these flat rates. These
are the values you type in and they will be used in addition to
any other options you selected. For example, you could type in
Canada $15.00, Eastern Europe $15.00, Western Europe $20.00, etc.
Set up Flat Rates
Keep in mind that with flat rates, the
customer will be responsible for selecting the appropriate
shipping method from the drop down menu. There is no way for the
system to force the customer to select the correct choice. It is
up to you to advise your customer as best as possible and then
double check to make sure they selected the correct option. You
can add comments on the Check Out page to tell customers what to select.
Option 2: International Rate Table
While there is no way to specify a country
or break down rates by geographic location, you can use the
International Rate table to specify rates for outside the USA and
Canada as one group.
